Not ‘just another cross country ski trail’

“Chris Law is the owner/operator of Ski-Tuonela and listeners of CBC Radio’s Information Morning between 6-9 a.m. would surely agree that describing this entrepreneur as colourful would be an understatement. Even the host of Information Morning, Ian McNeil, has difficulty maintaining his composure after airing one of Chris’s sidesplitting ski reports that dramatically assess the ski conditions in Goose Cove. Describing sections of the ‘Tuonela’ trail that boast such names as Peligroso Loop, Lightning Strike, XrisXross, Kirby’s Folly, Sink Hole and the ‘S’ Bends, the vivid Chris Law paints a glorious picture and from time to time is known to take certain liberties with the English language including the infamous “Peligroso is more fab than fab.”

To describe Ski-Tuonela as just another cross country ski trail would be grossly unfair. It would be like calling a Mercedes just another car or the Cabot Trail just a road between Ingonish and Cheticamp. Ski-Tuonela is an experience. More specifically, a wilderness experience and one you won’t soon forget according to the hundreds of glowing comments written in the Tuonela Lodge, Chalet and Sauna journals.

Ski-Tuonela provides a perfect combination of trails and terrain for serious cross country and telemark skiers, as well as weekend (or weekday) recreational skiers who want to experience the pristine wilderness of the Cape Breton Highlands or to enjoy some quality time with family and friends in the great outdoors.”
