We simply did not want to leave.

“The village is comprised of eight cabins, a hut with an amazing sauna, recreational buildings for socializing and it just looks like it belongs in a fairy tale. When sitting in front of our wood stove, it really felt like we were in a European chalet, somewhere in the forest, far away from the noise and busy demands of everyday life.

Steaming in the wood-fired sauna was the perfect apres-ski activity one could ask for 🙂 And hanging out by the fireplace well into the late hours of the night, while drinking warm beverages felt like a true vacation. We simply did not want to leave. Without a doubt, we will be coming back!”

“Our little wedding”

“Hi Anni: Thank you for being flexible and accommodating for our little wedding. It was perfect! It’s hard to express how special your Ski Tuonela is to me. It’s really how and why I fell in love with Mike and Cape Breton. I am so grateful for you and Chris. Funny how you can never know what impact you may have on some one’s life just by deciding to create a ski-business! You truly have a beautiful place which I hope will be protected for years to come.” Jenni & Mike Van.                 Feb 10 2017

“The kids did wonderful”

January 27 2013

Hi Chris,

Russell and I just wanted to thank you and Anni for another great
weekend. The ski out was fantastic. The kids did wonderful and
couldn’t believe how quickly we made it to the van. They even skied
down the steep hill at the end. They had so much confidence when we
reached it. It was a perfect day for learning and your tips were very
helpful. They said it was the most fun they have ever had!

See you soon,

~Krista and Russell

Right in our own backyard!

March, 2011

Chris and Anni,

On behalf of our group of locals, thank you so much for allowing us to kick off our March Break at Tuonela. What an amazing place, right in our own backyard. The accommodations were well stocked, cozy and warm.

We made great use of the Tanzhaus games room and the Lodge where we took in the movies Chris has shot of his adventures. The hospitality was wonderful. We snowshoed and skied; the scenery was beautiful.

We have been letting everyone know about this gem of a spot; hopefully more locals will take advantage of this excellent place, so close to home.

So thanks again, you’ll be seeing us in the fall for a hiking adventure!

A magical place

February 2009

Dear Chris and Annie,

I just wanted to thank you both so much for all you did to make our stay at Ski – Tuonela a fabulous experience for all of us. We especially appreciate that you have created such a magical place where nature, snow and friends can be appreciated and one can slow down and relax and have fun.
I know I speak for the others in thanking you and am sure that many or all of us will be back again before long.

Best regards,
Dr. Peter Eatonl

Not ‘just another cross country ski trail’

Monday, March 6, 2000

“Chris Law is the owner/operator of Ski-Tuonela and listeners of CBC Radio’s Information Morning between 6-9 a.m. would surely agree that describing this entrepreneur as colourful would be an understatement. Even the host of Information Morning, Ian McNeil, has difficulty maintaining his composure after airing one of Chris’s sidesplitting ski reports that dramatically assess the ski conditions in Goose Cove. Describing sections of the ‘Tuonela’ trail that boast such names as Peligroso Loop, Lightning Strike, XrisXross, Kirby’s Folly, Sink Hole and the ‘S’ Bends, the vivid Chris Law paints a glorious picture and from time to time is known to take certain liberties with the English language including the infamous “Peligroso is more fab than fab.”

To describe Ski-Tuonela as just another cross country ski trail would be grossly unfair. It would be like calling a Mercedes just another car or the Cabot Trail just a road between Ingonish and Cheticamp. Ski-Tuonela is an experience. More specifically, a wilderness experience and one you won’t soon forget according to the hundreds of glowing comments written in the Tuonela Lodge, Chalet and Sauna journals.

Ski-Tuonela provides a perfect combination of trails and terrain for serious cross country and telemark skiers, as well as weekend (or weekday) recreational skiers who want to experience the pristine wilderness of the Cape Breton Highlands or to enjoy some quality time with family and friends in the great outdoors.”
